Spouse Visa
If you are married and wish to call your spouse to the UK then you must meet the following rules:
- To obtain a UK spouse visa, the following requirements must be met:
You and your spouse must be 18 years old or over. - You must have met each other and be legally married – this is to prevent arranged marriages.
- You must intend to live together permanently.
- You must have enough money to support yourselves (and any dependents) without claiming public funds.
- Your sponsoring partner must earn more than £18,600 per year or have enough savings to be able to sponsor you. The minimum financial requirement is higher if they are also sponsoring dependent children (see our section on Children’s Visas below)..
- You must have suitable accommodation for you, your spouse and any dependants.
- You must satisfy the English language requirements.
- Spouses and Partners are eligible to remain in the UK for up to 2.5 years.
Thereafter a further extension will be applied for. After a total of 5 years of resid-ing in the UK you may apply for indefinite leave to remain.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Spouse Visa Application:
A Spouse visa leads to settlement and allows you to live together with a British partner in the UK for up to 30 months.
The visa can be extended for another 30 months
Meeting certain eligibility conditions will lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)
You will thereafter be eligible for British Citizenship
To apply for the spouse visa you must satisfy the following:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
If you wish to continue to stay in the UK you must apply for a Spouse visa extension before the expiry of the spouse visa.
The Spouse Visa extension, lasts for 30 months.
After the expiry of this extension an application can be made for Indefinite Leave to Remain after which you apply for British citizenship. The requirements for the extension are similar to the original Spouse Visa and include being able to prove that you have been in a genuine relationship with your spouse/partner, and intend to carry on living together in the UK.
To apply for the spouse visa you must satisfy the following:
